The monograph presents a comprehensive analysis of the mechanisms of legitimizing the power of the monarch on the Belarusian lands in the 13th – first third of the 15th century in an evolutionary perspective. On the basis of data from a wide range of sources (written, illustrative, sphragistic, numismatic), the mechanisms of institutionalizing the power of rulers in the specified period of time are highlighted, the influence of religion on the sacralization of power and the strengthening of its positions in society is considered, the titulature of the GDL monarchs is studied, the value of Polotsk princes in the political structure of the state is analyzed, the evolution of the image of the ruler in the Russian, Belarusian-Lithuanian, European narrative tradition, which depends on the sociopolitical conditions for creating sources, is traced.
