The newspaper “Universitetsky Vesnik” is the successor in title of “Pedagog”, an official edition of Mogilev State A.y Kuleshov University.
Since its foundation till February 2018 L.I. Shishakova had been its editor. Since February 2018 Viacheslav Korotkevich became the editor of the newspaper.
The first issue of the newspaper “Pedagog” appeared in May 1996. The newspaper is issued monthly with its circulation of 299 copies. The articles are contributed both in Belarusian and Russian. The newspaper is made into page and printed by the printing-house named after Spiridon Sobol.
Naturally, interesting events take place outside the printing house – at the university, its faculties, departments, student groups, hostels.
Since the first issue the newspaper has been recording the history of our educational institution. Its pages have become a kind of a chronicle displaying the foundation, development and major achievements in training highly qualified specialists, conducting fundamental research. The newspaper did not only witness the transformation of the pedagogical institute into the university but contributed to this process by its articles and sketches. In September 1997 the newspaper was renamed into “Universitetsky Vesnik” after the mentioned transformation.
The newspaper is believed to contribute to the promotion of languages, Belarusian and Russian cultural enrichment, folk art. This fact is proved by the pages devoted to the writers’ jubilees, university creative clubs, reviews of art exhibitions.
The newspaper readers are the witnesses of the celebrations in honour of outstanding scholars, war and labour veterans, excellent students, masters of sports. With great pleasure we write about the remarkable work of scientists, teachers, colleagues, students. Many lines focus on youth problems including the newspaper column “Student Life”. It covers the issues which may excite students’ interest: different competitions and contests, public organizations, meeting talented people, useful tips etc.
Since the day the first issue of the newspaper was published all faculties and departments have enjoyed a great opportunity to feature their life and raise vital problems.
Non-staff correspondents among teachers and students contribute their articles to the newspaper. We are proud of our cooperation with such well-known journalists working in the national and regional media: Pavel Saveliev, the editor of “Udarny Front” issued in Shklov, Olga Tkacheva, the editor of the site maintained by Mogilev Regional Executive Committee, Antonina Blizniuk, the leading reporter of “Mogilevskaya Pravda”, Irina Nekrylova, the head of the department of “Golas Kastiukoushchyny”, Elena Dolova, Viktoria Sidelnikova, the reporters of “Mogilevskie Vedomosti”, Elena Simonova, Elena Ignatova, the press secretaries of the Department of the Internal Affairs, Yekaterina Gordievskaya (Chizhova), the editor of the newspaper “Nasha Versiya”, Ilia Zhartun and others.
The newspaper awards:
– a letter of thanks given by the Department of Ideology of Mogilev Regional Executive Committee in 2005 for an active participation in IX International Specialized Fair “Mass Media in Belarus”;
– an honourary diploma given by the Department of Ideology of Mogilev Regional Executive Committee in 2006 for an active coverage of social and economic development of the university and participation in international mass media expositions;
– a second place diploma in the nomination «Best Design» at the international seminar “Winter School of Student Journalism – 2006”;
– a winner’s diploma in the nomination «Polygraphic Execution» at the international seminar “Winter School of Student Journalism – 2008”;
– a winner’s diploma in the nomination «Best Official Edition» at the republican seminar “Winter School of Student Journalism – 2010”;
– an honourary diploma given by the Department of Ideology of Mogilev Regional Executive Committee in 2011 for a purposeful enhancement of professional, cultural and spiritual level of the university teachers, coworkers and students;
– a second place diploma in the nomination «Devotion to University Traditions» at the international seminar “Winter School of Student Journalism” in 2014;
– a participant diploma at the international seminar “Winter School of Student Journalism” in 2016;
– a participant diploma at the contest «We are Together» held among Mogilev journalists, mass media, Internet resources for their the best coverage of the AIDS issue in 2016.
