The monograph represents the study of the Uskhod burial mound — an archaeological monument of the late X–XII centuries. Currently it is the best studied burial mound in the Mogilev Dnieper region. In the course of archaeological excavations 49 burial mounds made according to the inhumation rite (at daytime horizon, on bedding, in the pits under barrows) have been studied. Christian eschatological ideas influenced the funeral rites of the population — a complete rejection of the cremation custom, the use of coffins, the appearance of burials in pits on early stages of the existence of burial mounds, the use of crosses and cross-shaped pendants. Materials published in the monograph are introduced in full to scientific use for the first time.
Intended for researchers, teachers, students, local historians and all those who are interested in archeology and historical past of Belarus.
