On March 15 the students of Confucius Institute in Mogilev State A. Kuleshov University learnt the basics of Chinese Taijiquan (Tai Chi), which is considered a national treasure of China.
The workshop was led by Wang Xiaomei, the Chinese director of the Confucius Institute, and Chang Likun, the Chinese language teacher.
In her opening speech Wang Xiaomei noted that the increasing stress in all spheres of human life requires increased attention to the preservation of health and the formation of healthy lifestyle skills in everyday behaviour. And one of the ways to solve this problem can be Chinese Taijiquan gymnastics. Today people of all ages turn to these techniques: children, middle-aged people, the elderly. Tai-chi is included in the programmes of many Chinese schools and universities.
Recently this method has been compared to yoga: it is just as useful for all muscle groups and for the organism as a whole. Properly measured breathing, inner harmony, smooth soft movements are the main characteristics of Tai-Chi. Over the course of workshop participants also mastered a basic set of exercises.
Confucius Institute plans to hold Taijiquan classes until the end of May 2025.
